Quality Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

We are looking for a full-time Quality Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join the Quality department at Arconic Lafayette Operations in Lafayette, Indiana. The role of this position is to provide Metallurgical laboratory testing to support various Arconic manufacturing locations. The principle challenge of this position is to accurately, effectively, and efficiently perform laboratory tensile testing, lot release support and check in material samples while being quality conscious. Attention to detail and able to interact with customers and suppliers. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Preparation and testing of exfoliation samples.
· Preparation, mounting, polishing and grading of various micro samples.
· Handling of chemicals, hydrofluoric acid, etc.
· Replenishing the etchants, and proper disposal of etchants.
· Supporting water treatment plant with regards to sample preparation.
· Preparing queries for proper sampling, preparation, mounting, polishing and grading for monthly AMS2772 spec requirements.
· Ordering of all lab supplies/ catalog, non-catalog, required quotes, and move orders.
· Requesting quotes for various calibration requirements, preparing requisitions, preparing MSOs and cover letters.
· Prepare NADCAP check list for calibrations/ certificates of analysis.
· Requirement to perform laboratory tensile testing, lot release support and check in material samples.
Minimum Years of Experience:
•Minimum of 2 years work experience in aluminum fabrication or laboratory environment
•Associates or Bachelor’s degree.
•Single point accountability regarding writing, maintaining, and controlling certain measurement assurance manuals and processes relative to various physical-testing procedures used within the laboratory.
•Training other laboratory technicians in the operation of test equipment and procedures pertaining to assigned processes.
•Knowledgeable to monitor and maintain control charts critical to sustaining AS9100 and Nadcap certification.
•Understanding the importance of laboratory cleanliness and safety requirements.
•Self-sufficient in a fast pace environment.
•Must have applicable experience solving problems, and understanding customer specifications and procedures.
•Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office.
•Willing to work off shift, weekends and holidays as needed.
•Knowledgeable to review and interpret data.
Minimum Education Required:
High School or GED
Minimum Travel Required:
•High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
•Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
