The Plant Superintendent , reporting to the Operations Manager, oversees the backshift operations at the Niles facility. Responsibilities include managing Production Shift Supervisors and hourly workforce to ensure production goals are met within the guidelines set out by the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Accountable for Environmental, Health, and Safety results, productivity improvement, employee development, maximizing the value of diversity, and customer delivery through implementation of ABS principles, including Daily Management, TPM, 5S, etc.;
Ensure consistent implementation and execution of policies and systems to guarantee customer (internal and external) expectations are met at the lowest cost and always with safety at the forefront of every activity;
Strive to increase productivity and efficiency in all plant operations and ensure the execution of the financial goals and expectations set for the respective year through interaction with the Production Shift Supervisors and production employees;
Responsible for managing Production Shift Supervisors. Provide leadership and direction to ensure a competent and motivated salary / hourly workforce;
Single point of contact for backshift allocation of resources to effectively and fully utilize assets for optimal results;
Focus on quality issues by identifying problems in the manufacturing flow, research and analyze potential alternatives that utilize Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing concepts and effectively implement solutions;
Explore alternative options for making changes to the manufacturing process that will ultimately achieve an increase in throughput;
Operate in a fast-paced setting with ever-changing and multiple priorities while developing the highest standards of quality, cost, service and safety;
Assist in special projects spearheaded by operations.
Minimum Years of Experience:
Experience managing both hourly and salary employees;
Strong communication skills;
Eight or more years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably metals;
Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or Business from an accredited institution;
Eight plus years’ experience in a supervisory / management role with strong leadership, communication and organizational skills. Experience working in a union environment preferred;
Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, employee relations, quality, productivity and cost;
Demonstrated experience successfully managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workload while paying attention to detail;
Possess excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills;
Knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agency directives;
Immediate to Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office. Experience with SAP a plus;
Experience with direct supervision of multiple groups across multiple shifts;
Experience within a Heavy Manufacturing Environment Continuous Improvement/Lean experience.
Minimum Education Required:
High School or GED
Minimum Travel Required:
High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution;
Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing;
