Position Description

Arconic is currently seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and analytically-minded team member to join our Ground Transportation Market Sector Team (MST) as a Market and Business Analyst , focusing on the Commercial Transportation sector. The role is based at our Corporate Center in Pittsburgh PA and reports directly to the Director of the Ground Transportation MST.

Organizational Context

The Ground Transportation MST (including Automotive and Commercial Transportation) is one of three at Arconic: in addition, there are MSTs for Aerospace, and Defense. The primary mission of the Market Sector Teams is to guide the business and support business growth targets. The MSTs accomplish this by developing deep insights into their respective markets, understanding trends and their implications, “connecting the dots” between the market and Arconic’s businesses, and identifying and incubating new growth opportunities through market and customer transparency, intimacy, and performance dialogue. The MSTs are a key resource for the offices of the CEO and CFO to maintain a current understanding of market performance and our competitive environment, to support decision making, and as a partner with Investor Relations.

The MSTs are part of a broader organization, Strategy and Business Transformation, which also includes the following teams. Although these teams are distinct, there are substantial cross-pollination and cross-organizational career growth opportunities across them, on an ongoing basis.

  • Strategy & Business Initiatives (SBI), which is Arconic’s corporate strategy group. SBI is responsible for setting the future direction of the company and identifying opportunities for profitable growth, in partnership with leaders of the business and other corporate functions, such as Finance and Corporate Development

  • Growth Program Office, which drives commercial excellence practices throughout the company, including Customer Experience (CX) and adoption of commercial tools

  • Arconic Ventures, which manages strategic minority investments in disruptive technologies

Role

The primary focus of the Market and Business Analyst is to identify growth opportunities by conducting and supporting global market research, competitive analysis, regulatory analysis, strategic market planning, new product innovation, and evaluation of internal business performance metrics. The Analyst has responsibility to influence cross-functional teams to promote an up to date understanding of Arconic’s current condition within the market and to identify and shape opportunities for business growth.

The Analyst will be responsible for working with various stakeholders including Business Unit (BU) commercial leaders, Business Unit/Resource Unit (RU) technologists, MST leaders, Key Account Managers and Investor Relations to accomplish the following:

  • Maintain a core set of industry data that is used for internal planning and external communications

  • Manage and assure accuracy of the market revenue modeling tools and processes, working with MST directors, analysts, and BU commercial teams bi-annually

  • Working with BU partners and outside experts in support of market-level strategy development and long-term growth business plans

  • Participate in business case analysis in support of investment decision making

  • Develop models for efficient analysis of market based data

  • Develop market opportunity proposals to drive “Market Driven Innovation” growth portfolio together with Technology resources. Contribute to identifying growth opportunities in multi-disciplinary teams

  • Provide regular updates to MST participants and other market stakeholders on market performance and market trends to support BU planning activities and growth strategy

  • Support marketing and communication with prioritized data analysis

Major Activities

Market Sector Forecast Data: Maintain and improve a consistent industry data set that is used for both internal planning and external communications. This would include but not be limited to information that supports:

  • Build-rate forecasts expressed in units and dollar value

  • Market transparency at the industry and Key Account levels

  • Quarterly financial reporting exercises

  • Modeling of Arconic sector performance as a function of platform value, market shares, pricing, etc

Strategic Market Analyses:

  • Profitable Growth: In support of the assigned MST (i.e., defense, ground transportation, aerospace), assist to drive profitable growth through business case development, new product introduction, key account support, and international trade show planning

  • Project Support: The Analyst will conduct a variety of analyses that are sponsored by organizations outside of SBT. The expectation is that as much as 50% of the Analyst’s time may be spent in support of “special assignment” programs managed by the BUs or other RUs covering business case development, technology surveys, competitor “deep dives” and other analyses in support of investment decision making. The Analyst will take a leading role on the analysis in these projects and is expected to provide a well-developed view of the market

  • SharePoint Stewardship: The Analyst will be responsible for the content and maintenance of the Sector SharePoint site that is used to house information made available to a wide swath of internal users. The MST SharePoint is one of the tools used to ensure a consistent market viewpoint across the company. The data and analysis provided is primarily the responsibility of the Analyst

  • Process and Tools: The Analyst is expected to be familiar with and apply a broad range of analytical tools, processes and frameworks in general and with those of the Arconic Commercial Advantage (ACA) toolset in particular. Support the internal DI (Degrees of Implementation) system to develop, track and report financial impacts on specific MST growth initiatives. Create model and dashboard to convert large data sets into key indicators on status of deployment against growth targets

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Science or Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Minimumof1 year analytics experience

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Marketing or Mechanical or Materials Engineering

  • Master's in Business Administration (MBA)

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as an analyst highly preferred
