The Continuous Improvement Manager will develop and implement Lean Manufacturing strategies that drive bottom-line improvements in manufacturing operations and related support centers. The role is also accountable for building and sustaining Arconic’s system of Lean management, known internally as “ABS”. The ABS Manager will be placed in an intensive management training program to learn and then apply Arconic’s ABS system. The role will start at one of our aerospace plants in the greater Los Angeles area to apply Arconic’s ABS system. After the training program, there will be discussions about full time placement, taking into consideration location preference and business needs.
Arconic Fastening Systems (AFS) holds the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aero engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment. Essential Functions: The Continuous Improvement Manager position includes both creation of strategic vision and tactical management and execution, examples include but are not limited to:
Ensures a culture is in place that puts the safety and welfare of our employees ahead of all other goals.
Partner with Plant Leaders to develop Continuous Improvement strategies that directly support plant Hoshin goals, then implement those strategies on the shop floor including the tools and processes required to sustain the improvements in the future
Generate productivity savings for Arconic plants of at least 5X their annual salary
Learn to effectively apply all aspects of Arconic’s Lean management system in manufacturing facilities and in related support functions
Partner with Plant Leaders to develop Continuous Improvement strategies that close key business gaps identified in Plant Hoshins
Facilitate kaizens and focused C.I. events to implement Hoshin improvement strategies on all shifts working closely with Manufacturing Supervisors and Operators
Support building a Lean culture by providing training and coaching to plant personnel on Lean theories, methodologies, and standards, with an emphasis on “Learn by Doing”. Utilize Train-the-Trainer techniques to transfer knowledge to department resources to enable self-sufficiency to launch future Lean improvements
Coach line leaders to implement key Lean systems such as: Daily Management, Performance Management, Root-Cause Problem Solving, Process IC&C, VSM, TPM, 5S, Standardized Work, and Leader Standard Work
Utilize Lean principles and Best Practices to establish new work standards for Machines, Processes, and People, to generate productivity savings, improve quality, and increase OTD
Deploy TPM strategies and standards to improve equipment reliability, with initial focus on critical or bottleneck equipment
Develop metrics and dashboard measures that enable the entire plant population to understand key performance indicators and business gaps, and take necessary actions to improve results
Coordinate with the ABS Center of Excellence to identify and implement best practices from across the Arconic businesses
Note: Candidates must be willing to travel to plant sites every week (Monday through Thursday) during training to learn and apply Arconic ABS. Most sites are in the greater Los Angeles area, but travel may include out of CA sites such as Tucson, AZ; Waco, TX; Kingston, NY; or Del Rio, TX/Acuna Mexico.

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Institution
Minimum 5 years of experience implementing Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement programs

Prefer that the Bachelor’s Degree is in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Business Management, from an accredited institution
A post graduate degree in Business or Sciences, from an accredited institution
Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing on the shop floor in manufacturing operations
Demonstrated ability to utilize Lean tools to generate meaningful, quantified improvement in: cost reduction, efficiency, reduced inventory, shortened cycle or lead times, improved quality and reliability, on-time delivery, or safety
Expert knowledge of Lean Manufacturing theories, methodologies, standards, and tools
Experience in training and coaching plant personnel to achieve productivity savings using Lean principles and tools
Understanding of financial and non-financial metrics necessary to achieve Plant and BU Hoshin goals
Experience in implementing Lean in areas of the business outside of Manufacturing
Plant management or Manufacturing Supervisor experience
Diverse leadership experience in areas of Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Planning, Financial, Manufacturing or Technical areas
Experience in successfully implementing large scale/systemic change efforts across a diverse organization
Experience performing VSM analyses and OEE studies to identify true production bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement
Experience in Six Sigma is considered a plus
